The tree species most commonly used for the production of Uso Fiume and Uso Trieste beams are red spruce, larch and chestnut. The sustainability of the product is guaranteed by the certification of the production forests and the subsequent production chain.
The selection of the logs suitable for the production of the beams is based on the high quality and the tapering of the log itself (the reduction in the log's diameter along its entire length - from the base to the tip). Only logs with tapering values equal to 5mm/ml are
processed as Uso Trieste beams, while logs with reductions of up to 6 or 7mm/ml are processed as Uso Fiume beams. In order to ensure maximum quality during the processing stage, each log is evaluated by a single operator on site and its precise characteristics (diameter, geometry, tapering, etc.) are subsequently analysed at an automatic station.
Like with the squaring, the chamfering of the logs is defined using automated machinery. The uniformity of the product is guaranteed by special cutters mounted upon modern machines. Proximity sensors ensure the safety of the operations. The rollers used to transport the logs maximize their contact with the utensils in order to ensure optimal processing, thus resulting in a clean final surface.
After being processed to meet the customer's size requirements, the product is subjected to an additional quality control by an operator in order to ensure that the highest quality standards have been met.
